Feedback Tips

How to share honest feedback on the IRA fee.

The IRA fee consultation process is all about honest, transparent feedback. SJSU wants to hear what you really think about the Instructionally Related Activities fee - what you like, what concerns you have, and what matters most to you. Here are some tips for sharing your perspective effectively.

  • Be honest. Share your genuine opinion, whether positive or critical. SJSU is listening for authentic student voices.
  • Share your story. Talk about how the fee or BayPass would affect you personally. Real examples are more powerful than abstract arguments.
  • Be specific. Instead of "it's too expensive," try "I spend $200 a month on transit fares right now." Concrete details matter.
  • Ask questions. If you're unclear about something, speak up. Your questions help SJSU understand what students need to know.
  • Acknowledge tradeoffs. If you have concerns about the fee, but also see benefits in BayPass, say that. Nuance shows you've thought about it.
  • Keep it brief. You have time to speak, but don't feel pressure to fill it all. A clear, focused comment is more effective than rambling.

Remember: SJSU is in a consultation process, not a debate. They want to understand what students think and what matters to you. Be yourself, be direct, and be honest.
